"Orange is the New Black" actress Laverne Cox will star in a reboot of 1975 musical comedy horror film "The Rocky Horror Picture Show".

Cox, 31, will play cross-dressing alien mad scientist, Dr Frank-N-Furter, a role made famous 40 years ago by Tim Curry, reported Entertainment Weekly.

The actress took to Twitter to share her happiness over her involvement with the project.

"I am so excited to be a part of #RockHorror legacy," she tweeted.

The film is celebrating a record 40 years of theatrical distribution, a longer stretch than any other movie in history.

Fox's two-hour television event will be directed, choreographed and executive produced by Kenny Ortega, with other executive producers including Lou Adler and Gail Berman.

Cox came to fame on the Netflix show "Orange is the New Black" and became the first transgender actress of color to receive a primetime Emmy nomination.
