Law Minister welcomes SC judgement on beacons on vehicles

Union Law Minister Ashwani Kumar today welcomed the Supreme Court order asking government to make punishment for traffic rules violation, particularly misuse of red beacons by VIPs, harsher by increasing the amount of fine to Rs 10,000.

"You can take my red beacon any day. In fact, I agree with the substance and the spirit of the Supreme Court," Kumar said when his reaction to the apex court judgement was sought by a reporter.

In response to another question, he said the Italian marines case will progress as per the judgement of the Supreme Court. He said the Chief Minister of Kerala had expressed desire that the case be held there, but the case would be heard outside the state.
 

He said the Home ministry would look into the investigation in the case.
