A Deputy Legal Advisor of CBI, posted with its Kolkata unit, has been convicted by a special court here for demanding bribe from a person in return for favouring him in an inquiry against him.

D K Srivastava was pronounced guilty by Special Judge Manoj Jain of Saket court for corruption but reserved its order on the quantum of sentence against him on November 11.

The case relates to a complaint made by one Rajeev Sharma on May 11, 2006 alleging Srivastava had demanded Rs four lakh bribe from him on the promise that he would favour him in a preliminary inquiry against him.

Following the complaint, CBI had registered a case against him on the same day. The agency arrested Srivastava, who is now posted in Kolkata zone of CBI, when he was accepting the bribe amount from Sharma.

The agency filed its charge sheet within two months before the special CBI court which found him guilty for the offences relating to bribery and criminal misconduct on the part of a public servant.
