Lawyer, accused of writing offencive internet post, gets bail

The sessions court today granted bail to a city-based lawyer who was arrested for allegedly posting derogatory comments about a religion on a social networking site.

Advocate Vijay Gaikwad had been arrested on January 2.

"I will challenge the bail order in the higher court," said advocate Moin Khan, the complainant.

The police had registered a case against Gaikwad on December 14 for allegedly promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion and defamation under Indian Penal Code and under Information Technology Act.

On December 13, a mob had protested outside the RAK police station in central Mumbai, demanding Gaikwad's arrest.
