Prominent lawyer Haresh Jagtiani appeared before the Mumbai police here today in connection with the QNet probe, since he is one of the directors of a company associated with the controversial firm, a senior police official said.
"Jagtiani was asked to appear by the investigation officer today. He came and met me. We are verifying if he or his company has any role in the matter," Additional Police Commissioner (EOW) Rajvardhan Sinha said.
Jagtiani, who represented many celebrities, is one of the directors of a travel company namely Bonvo Private Ltd, which is a franchise of the multi-level marketing firm QNet, said Sinha, who is supervising the case.
According to police sources, Jagtiani has submitted some documents in his defence before the investigating officer.
So far, the EOW has arrested nine QNet team leaders for allegedly duping investors by selling products like magnetic disks, herbal products and holiday schemes through fraudulent practices.
QNet has also been accused of using the banned binary pyramid business model for its multi-level marketing (MLM) schemes, to entice investors.
The accused have been charged with cheating and forgery under relevant sections of the Prize, Chits and Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act, 1978.
One Gurupreet Singh Anand, who filed an FIR against QNet in August last year, also alleged that former world billiards champion Michael Ferreira had participated in the company's promotional events.
EOW had questioned Ferreira earlier, though QNET founder Vijay Eswaran as well as his three business associates are yet to appear before the EOW.
QNet has denied any wrongdoing.
