Lawyers struck work and took to the streets in protest against the killing of a colleague, at city's Parivartan Chowk today.

Nikhilendra Kumar Gupta (35), a lawyer, was attacked with crude bombs by unidentified assailants near PGI here last night. He succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at a hospital here, police said.

In protest, lawyers went on strike locking court premises and staged a dharna near Parivartan Chowk, throwing traffic out of gear in the city.

"The two main accused involved in the attack have been arrested. The lawyers have protested against the incident," IG (Law & order) A Satish Ganesh told reporters here, adding that the local administration is looking into their demands.

Meanwhile, BJP slammed the SP government over the poor law and order situation in the state.

"There have been 35 murders and over two dozen big and small loots in the state capital. The bomb attack on lawyer has once again showed the high morale of criminal elements in the present regime. There is lawlessness all over the state," BJP leader Laxmikant Bajpai said in a statement issued here.

Accusing Akhilesh Yadav government of patronising criminal elements, Bajpai said while the government has turned a blind eye towards the problems of common man, the rising crime has made their life miserable.
