Kanishk Jayant submitted a written application at the office of Deputy Police Commissioner (Zone 1) Ravindra Shivase alleging that Raj had spoken in a defamatory manner about the architect of the Constitution while referring to Indu Mill land issue in his speech at the meeting here yesterday.
A police official said they were seeking legal opinion on the application before initiating any action.
"The topic of the rally was different but Thackeray made defamatory remarks against Ambedkar while talking about the Indu Mill land issue. Thackeray had committed an offence under the relevant sections of the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, and hence an FIR should be registered against him," Jayant told PTI.
The MNS leader had criticised Dalit leaders over their aggressive campaign demanding hand over of the mill land, currently under possession of National Textile Corporation, in Central Mumbai for setting up an Ambedkar memorial.
