Scores of lawyers today suspended work at district court and jammed roads protesting the attack on a 30-year-old lawyer who was grievously injured when unidentified persons shot at him, police said.

Vikas Singh alias Vicky Thakur was on his way to court on his motorcycle today when unidentified bike-borne persons shot him from behind near DAV trisection, Circle Officer DSP Jitendra Srivastava said.

Some lawyers who were in the area found Vikas and rushed him to a hospital, he said.

On learning about the incident, irate lawyers suspended work at the court and started demonstrating demanding arrest of the accused. They jammed the road near the court and forcefully shut the nearby shops, he said.

Senior police and administration officers intervened and resolved the issue, he said, adding, although the lawyers stopped the protest but they did not resumed work.

Heavy police force has been deployed near the court to avoid any untoward incident, he said.

Meanwhile, the victim underwent an surgery and presently his condition is stated to be stable but he is not out of danger yet, he said.

He is admitted to Intensive Care Unit of a private hospital, he said.

Efforts are on to nab the accused, the CO said, adding, prima facie it appears to be a case of old enmity.
