Lawyers boycott courts citing 'corruption in judiciary'

About one thousand lawyers from southern region of Tamil Nadu today boycotted courts and took out a rally to the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court, seeking steps "to wipe out corruption in the judiciary."

They protested contempt proceedings against two of their office bearers for organising protests against the High court order which made helmet wearing compulsory, a release issued by the Bar Associations said.

Shouting slogans, they said "corruption in Judiciary" provided protection for such practices and sought steps to "wipe out corruption in the judiciary".

Lawyers representing almost all the Bar associations in south Tamil Nadu took part in the rally.
