The Kerala chapter of All India Lawyers Union (AILU) today sought immediate intervention of the Union government in setting up a High Court bench in the state capital here.
It is a long pending demand and the centre should press the state government and the Kerala High Court to give their concurrence, AILU state Secretary B Rajendran told reporters.
He said the forum also wanted Supreme Court benches in five locations - north, south, east, west and central parts of the country - for the convenience of people who now have to travel all the way to Delhi for filing cases at the apex court.
A conscious attempt to abolish the Kerala Administrative Tribunal (KAT) from the state capital was going on and the authorities concerned should take immediate steps to check such attempts, he added.
