"There is need to have social commitment and social activism. We have a responsibility as far as society is concerned...To be able to bring about certain assurance in society that we stand up for the people," he said at a function here.
There is a need to reach out to people so that they get justice at their doorsteps, he said.
Pointing that work was aplenty in law courts and diaries are "choked and overloaded", Justice Kabir, who is also the chairman of Legal Services Authority of India said discussions have been held with law institutions to set up legal clinics.
There is need to provide free legal aid, he said, adding, "We have started social justice litigation which is an alternative to Public Interest Litigation to reach out to people."
