In a stern message to rebels under sacked Goa RSS head Subhash Velingkar, the Sangh today appointed Laxman Behre as its new chief of the state unit, a day ahead of scheduled convention of the breakaway group near here.
Behre's appointment as 'Goa Vibhag Sangh Chalak' is viewed as a snub to the rebels who had broken away from the Sangh's Konkan 'prant' in protest against Velingkar's ouster and formed a separate Goa 'prant' (region) under him. However, the swayamsewaks had not disassociated themselves from main RSS.
"The appointment order of Laxman Behre as Goa Vibhag Sangh Chalak was issued last evening by RSS Headquarters. In yet another order, Mahesh Dhavalikar has been designated as 'karyavah' of Konkan prant," a senior Sangh official told PTI today.

Velingkar, an RSS veteran in Goa, was given the marching orders on August 31 after Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM), of which he is a convener, expressed its intention to contest the 2017 Assembly elections against BJP.
While sacking Velingkar, RSS had stated that it was relieving him of his responsibilities because "a Sangh leader trying to enter into any political activity" was against the ethos of the saffron fountainhead.
BBSM has been vociferously opposing grants to English medium schools in Goa and led agitations against the Laxmikant Parsekar government demanding that primacy be given to Marathi and Konkani languages as the medium of instruction (MoI) in schools.
