Former cabinet minister of Punjab and senior BJP leader Laxmi Kanta Chawla today questioned the state government's ambitious Jalandhar Teerth-Darshan Yojana.
"The government has the money to take people on pilgrimage and provide them food free of cost but what about those elderly, widows and handicapped people who have to wander for months for their pension," she said.
In a letter written to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal she argued it would have been better had the government paid the pension first and taken people on pilgrimage thereafter.
The state government has announced a free-of-cost pilgrimage and a train to Takht Sri Hazur Sahib was flagged off yesterday as part of the Mukh Mantri Tirath Darshan Yatra scheme.
