Asserting that municipal corporations in the state should decide the rate of Local Bodies Tax (LBT), Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan today said the objective of introducing it in lieu of octroi was to make the municipal corporations financially stronger.
"Municipal Corporations should decide Local Bodies Tax rate," Chavan said, making a statement in the Legislative Council.
LBT -- facing opposition from traders -- came into force in Nagpur, Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and Thane on April 1. "Soon it will be implemented in Mumbai," CM said.
It was upto the businessmen and industrialists to make LBT a success, he said. Chavan made a similar statement in Legislative Assembly too.
