Lead prices edged higher by 0.53 per cent to Rs 161.85 per kg in futures trade today as traders built up fresh positions, driven by pick-up in demand in the spot market.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, lead for delivery in January was trading higher by 85 paise, or 0.53 per cent, to Rs 161.85 per kg in business turnover of 131 lots.

Likewise, the metal for delivery in December edged up by 75 paise, or 0.47 per cent, to Rs 161.85 per kg in 5,042 lots.

Market analysts attributed the rise in lead futures to fresh positions created by traders due to upsurge in demand from battery-makers in the physical market.
