Leader of pro-government militia killed in northwest Pakistan

Taliban fighters shot and killed an important leader of a pro-government militia near Peshawar city of northwest Pakistan today.

Militants fired indiscriminately at Misri Khan and other members of the "peace lashkar" in Adezai area, located 35 km from Peshawar. Khan was killed instantly.

Several militant factions are active in Adezai area, including the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan.

The chief of the peace lashkar, Waqif Khan, who is also a senior leader of the PML-N, said a Taliban faction informed him about the attack and claimed responsibility for killing Misri Khan.

More than 100 people have lost their lives in clashes between the Taliban and members of the peace lashkar of Adezai.
