The Delhi government today said it has developed a 'Learning Enrichment Programme" as an "immediate and interim" measure to improve learning levels of children studying in Class-IX in the three core subjects -- Hindi, Mathematics and English.

The programme has been designed in collaboration with NGO Pratham and will be run till the end of January, it said in a statement.

"In order to bring all Class IX students up to speed, supplementary learning material has been created for these three subjects. Each school conducted a baseline assessment of Class IX students in October, using a tool developed by Pratham in consultation with the Directorate of Education," the government said.

For each of the three subjects, the tool consisted of five questions each. Teachers administered this 90 minute-long pen and paper assessment.

Based on this assessment, the students would be divided into groups, and given worksheets and supplementary material based on their learning levels.

The material is designed to move from simple to complex topics, to help students understand concepts they have not successfully learnt in lower grades, the government said.

"Each set of worksheet starts with the fundamental concepts in these subjects, explained through examples followed by practice questions.

"The difficulty level of the worksheets increases progressively. Thus, the teacher has the choice to determine the pace at which she would like to move depending on how children are progressing," it added.

Each school has designated one nodal teacher who would supervise the 'Learning Enrichment Programme' for Class IX.

These teachers would send weekly feedback to the DoE on the progress of students. Additionally, each of the 29 educational zones in Delhi, have designated two nodal officers who shall monitor and supervise the programme in schools.
