Leela in MoU with Summit Gp to open luxury hotel in K'thmandu

Luxury hospitality chain Hotel Leelaventure is establishing a five-star deluxe hotel in Nepal to mark its international foray.

Hotel Leelaventure today inked a memorandum of understanding with Nepal-based Summit Group which will develop the property in the heart of Kathmandu in 36 months. Leela will market and manage it as a part of its Leela brand.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Nepal Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, a statement by Leelaventure said.

Hotel Leelaventure Chairman and Managing Director Vivek Nair said: "We are delighted to begin our foray into the international markets with Kathmandu. Given the potential of tourism worldwide, we look forward to expanding our footprint in India and overseas."
 

"The entry of the Leela Group in Nepal would dramatically raise standards and help stimulate tourism," Summit Group Chairman and Managing Director Amrit Shakya said.

Leela Kathmandu will be followed by a hotel in Lumbini as part of the Leela Group's plans to pave a Buddhist trail from Nepal to Bodhgaya, Nalanda, and Varanasi in India.

Other places in Nepal where hotels are being planned under the Leela banner include Pokhara, the company said.

Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts owns and manages eight properties across India-- Mumbai, New Delhi, Gurgaon, Bangalore, Chennai, Goa, Udaipur and Kovalam.

The new properties under development of the Leelaventure include Jaipur, Bengaluru, Agra, Lake Ashtamudi in Kerala and Lucknow.
