Urging the Election Commission to take steps for ensuring a free and fair poll in the Howrah Lok Sabha by-election in West Bengal, the Left Front today accused the Trinamool Congress of unleashing rampant violence in the constituency.
Left Front chairman Biman Bose said in a statement that the TMC had let loose "rampant violence" in the area to terrorize voters.
"They have increased terror tactics as the polling day is nearing in.... The election commission should interfere and ensure that polls are held freely and fairly," Bose said.
The main contending parties in the election are the Trinamool Congress, Congress and the CPI-M while the BJP has opted out following instructions from party president Rajnath Singh.
