Left parties today demanded that police should take stringent action against BJP national secretary H Raja for his alleged remarks against senior CPI leader D Raja over the JNU row.

In a memorandum submitted to Police Commissioner A Amalraj, CPI-M district committee member U K Sivagnanam alleged that the BJP leader's remarks amounted to creating communal tension by spreading hatred among the public about the CPI leader.

Talking to reporters after submitting the memorandum, former CPI-M MP P R Natarajan and CPI MLA M Arumugham said H Raja had tried to create hatred by speaking "untruth" and levelling "unnecessary" charges against D Raja.

The BJP leader had on February 20 told reporters here that "those who disrespect the Indian Constitution and the national flag have no right to remain in the country and were free to move out".

Stating that H Raja was making allegations without proper evidence, Natarajan said police should take stringent legal action against him.
