Criticising the Centre for remaining silent on Israel's offensive in Gaza, the Left Front today staged a protest rally in the metropolis and asked the government to register its note of dissent in United Nations.

"Israel is killing innocent civilians in Gaza. It should be stopped immediately. It is a shame that in the holy month of Ramzan, innocent Palestinians are being attacked. They are being backed by capitalist US forces," Left Front chairman Biman Bose said.

The Left leaders along with their supporters held the rally from Entally Ramlila Maidan to Park Circus Maidan.

"Why is the Centre silent on the offensive? What is stopping them from condemning this inhuman act, why are they not allowing a discussion in the Parliament?" Bose asked.

Accusing the government of refusing to have a discussion in Rajya Sabha over the Israeli attacks in the Gaza strip, CPI(M) today said the BJP was "bending over backwards" to please Israel and the US by filibustering a debate on the issue.

Yielding to Opposition demand, the Centre today agreed for a discussion in the Rajya Sabha on the Gaza situation on Monday.
