Accusing the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre of pursuing anti-people policies, five Left Parties staged a demonstration here today against its failure on several fronts, including inability to bring back black money stashed abroad.

The demonstrators also mounted a scathing attack on the BJD government in Odisha over corruption and multi-crore chitfund scam being investigated by the CBI.

The mass dharna was addressed by leaders of CPI, CPI-M, Forward Bloc, SUCI and CPI (ML) Liberation and a memorandum was given to the Governor highlighting their demands including a CBI probe into the mining scam in Odisha and implementation of Justice M B Shah commission report.

Slamming the BJP-led government, the left party leaders said though BJP and Narendra Modi had announced that black money would be brought back within 100 days of coming to power, now the Centre is backtracking from its promise.

"We demand that the list of depositors of black money abroad be announced and concrete steps taken to bring back the unaccounted cash from abroad," they said.

Accusing Modi government of failing to check unemployment, price rise and corruption, they said prices of essential commodities have sky-rocketed during the NDA rule.

Hitting out at the BJP-led government, the left party leaders accused it of failing to take any steps to curb corruption and create job opportunities.

Turning to Odisha, they claimed that the ongoing CBI probe into chitfund scam had exposed BJD leaders as several ruling party leaders including MP and MLA, have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the scandal.

Stating that lakhs of poor investors were duped of their hard earned money by tainted chitfund companies, they said assets of these firms should be confiscated and refund arranged for the poor investors.

The meet was addressed among others by CPI state secretary Dibakar Nayak, Janardan Pati of CPI-M, Purnachandra Padhi of Forward Bloc, Dhurjati Das of SUCI and Judhisthira Mohapatra of CPI (ML) Liberation.
