Left supporters today staged protests outside the State Election Commission Office and gheraoed the car of Interim SEC Alapan Bandopadhyay demanding repoll in all the 41 wards of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation.

"We have staged protest outside the SEC office today and in front of the car of SEC to protest against the partisan decision of the SEC to order repoll in some booths tomorrow," a senior left leader said.

The North 24 Parganas district CPI(M) leadership will also organise sit-in demonstration outside the SEC office tomorrow, a senior Left leader said.

The Left and opposition BJP today decided to boycott tomorrow's repoll in 11 booths in Bidhannagar and Asansol Municipal Corporations accusing the State Election Commissioner of acting at the behest of the ruling Trinamool Congress.

"We have decided to boycott the repoll on October 9 as the decision taken by the interim State Election Commissioner is one sided, in favour of TMC. He is acting as an agent of TMC," CPI(M) state secretariat leader Rabin Deb told reporters after meeting West Bengal Governor K N Tripathi in the evening.

"We wanted repolling in all the 41 wards in Bidhanagar and 16 wards in Howrah. But it has been narrowed down to few booths just. It is nothing but a farce. So we have decided to boycott the polls," he said.
