Maharashtra Higher Education Minister Vinod Tawde said here today that the government has sought all details from the High Court and is seeking legal advice pertaining to Rajan Welukar's appointment as Vice Chancellor of the Mumbai University.

"Universities are autonomous and we cannot give direct instructions to Vice Chancellors. So, we are sending all details to the Maharashtra Governor," Tawde said.

Hemant Takle of the NCP raised this matter in the council after yesterday's High Court decision about the appointment of Rajan Welukar as Vice Chancellor of Mumbai University, and what action would be taken by the government.

"I personally collected some information from related agencies. All the details will be forworded to the Maharashtra governor for his decision," Tawde said.

In another priority issue Manikrao Thakre of the Congress tabled resolution congratulating Nobel Prize winner Kailash Satyarthi of India and Malala Yousafzai of Pakistan.

The Council unanimously passed the resolution and congratulated both the Nobel Prize winners.
