Top lawyers and retired judges of the Supreme Court have come up with an array of suggestions seeking to remove bottlenecks in the judiciary, including the need to strengthen courtroom infrastucture across the country.
The proposals came up during a panel discussion organised by civil society and NGOs including Justice Seekers, CSR (Centre for Social Research) and All India Women's Conference here yesterday.
Justice Gyan Sudha Mishra (retd) called for constitutional amendments to refine legal processes and formation of an active group in civil society, which she said, would regularly flag issues faced by litigants, to the judges.
Women's rights lawyer Flavia Agnes emphasissed on the need for good basic infrastructure in all states and drew attention to the "lack of courtroom amenities" in smaller towns compared to metropolitan cities.
Eminent lawyer Indira Jaising suggested the system be simplified to an extent where the clients can handle most things themselves without having to rely heavily on middlemen that inlcudes lawyers.
A regular meeting between the public and judges every few months could also be a medium to freely air difficulties, she said.
