Cracking the whip on multiplexes and cinema houses in the city selling food items and other packaged goods allegedly at more than maximum retail price, the Legal Metrology Department today booked 54 cases against them.
According to officials, the department had issued rules and regulations to theatre and multiplexes as per Legal Metrology Department Packaged Commodities Act.
Selling goods at more than MRP was illegal and violation of rules will result in penalty and imprisonment, they had earlier said.
Special checks were conducted today at 20 multiplexes in the city out of which 18 multiplexes were found violating the rules and 54 cases were booked, the officials said.
Controller for Legal Metrology Department Akun Sabharwal earlier said from August 1, cinema theatres and multiplexes should compulsory sell food items, water bottles and cool drinks at MRP only.
