Polls for 24 seats of the legislative councils of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh will be held on April 26, the Election Commission announced today, as the terms of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and former UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav in their respective state's Upper House near completion.
The term of Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi as member of the state legislative council is also ending on May 6.
A total of 13 seats in UP, including the one held by Yadav, and 10 in Bihar, including those held by Kumar and Modi, are falling vacant on May 5 and 6 respectively.
Another seat in Bihar fell vacant due to the disqualification of Narendra Singh, on January 6, 2016. His term was up to May 6 this year.
The EC said the poll for the 24 seats -- 13 in UP and 11 in Bihar -- would be held on April 26.
