Amid apprehension of "foul play" in the Lekhpal (revenue) recruitment examination, Uttar Pradesh Minister Shivpal Singh Yadav today said stern action would be taken against those who are "extorting" money from aspiring candidates on the pretext of getting them selected.

"It has come to my notice that some officers and others are promising selection in Lekhpal examinations and taking money from candidates," the Uttar Pradesh Revenue Minister said.

"Strict action will be taken against those involved in any attempt to befool candidates and affect selection process," he added.

He said such persons are claiming themselves close to me or government. "If any candidate is approached by any such person he/she can register complaint," he said.

Cautioning the candidates to remain alert, the Minister said any attempt to "extort money" would be thwarted.

Intelligence has also been alerted so that the exams could be held in peaceful and transparent way.

The examination is scheduled for September 13.

Over 26 lakh candidates have applied for 13,216 posts and the examination would be held at 2,192 centres across the state, the Minister said.
