: With Tamil Nadu already experiencing hot days ahead of summer, the state government has directed providing lemon juice or buttermilk to traffic police personnel as per an existing arrangement.
Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had announced such an initiative in 2012, following which lemon juice is provided four times a day to about 6,500 traffic personnel for four months starting from March, the government said today.
Following pleas from cops that buttermilk could also be provided, the government had issued an order last year that one of these two drinks could be offered to the policemen as per their choice, an official release said.
With hot days already setting in, Jayalalithaa has directed that the practice of providing traffic cops with their choice of one of these two cool drinks be started from today itself which will be duely implemented, it said.
