A two-year-old leopard caught in an iron noose was today rescued by forest department officials near here.
The leopard, rescued after officials along with a veterinarian tranquilised it, suffered injuries on its abdomen and legs and would be released in forest after treatment, officials said.
Some boys playing in the area heard the roaring of the leopard and informed forest department officials, who along with veterinarian Dr Vijayaraghavan rushed to the spot and tranquilised the animal.

Investigations were on to find out who had placed the noose on the private land bordering the forest land, the officials said.
Such nooses are normally placed in farm lands to catch rabbit, wild boar and other animals, which frequent the area and destroy crops.
