Leopard cub run over by speeding train in Odisha

A two-year-old leopard cub was run over by a speeding train near Bhimkhoj in Sambalpur district today.

The cub was apparently crossing the railway track in the wee hours when it came under the wheels, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Sambalpur, Sudipta Nayak said.

After being informed by the locals, Regional Chief Conservator of Forest (RCCF), Sisir Kumar Acharya and other other officials rushed to the spot and brought the carcass to the deer park here where a post-mortem was conducted.

A case of unnatural death had been lodged by the forest department in this connection, he said, adding the accident- causing train was yet to be identified.
 

The leopard was believed to have come to the area from the adjoining Khalasuni or Meghpal reserve forest area under Rairakhol forest division, he said.
