Leopard killed

at Sibsagar district of upper Assam after the animal attacked and injured two persons, officials said.

People of Kanubari near Sonari spotted the leopard this morning hiding atop a tree and called forest department officials.

However, before forest personnel could arrive, some people shot arrows and threw stones at the animal which jumped from the tree and attacked the people who had gathered at the spot, sources said.

Two persons sustained injuries in the attack.

However, the residents overpowered the animal and killed it using sharp weapons.

Some locals chopped off the tail and other body parts of the leopard.
