Leopard killed by villagers in UP

A leopard was today killed by angry villagers after it attacked and injured two persons in a village in Katarniaghat wildlife division here.

Vipnesh, 22 and Bablu, 20, working in a sugarcane field were attacked and injured by the leopard following which irate villagers attacked the animal with lathis leading to its death, Divisional forest officer, Ashish Tewari said.

Though the forest staff, who have been alerted, are patrolling the areas where leopards have been sighted in the recent past, there was no report of its presence in this village, the DFO said, adding, that by the time teams could reach, the beast had been killed.
 

The leopard was about 4 to 5-year-old.

A team of three doctors is performing its post-mortem examination, Tewari said, adding, the injured have been admitted to hospital.
