Leopard kills 6-yr-old girl

A 6-year-old girl was mauled to death by a leopard at Choki village in Bhesan tehsil of Junagadh district in the wee hours today, a forest official said.

The victim, identified as Sharmila Bhuriya, daughter of migrant farm labourers, was killed by the leopard when she came out of the hut to relieve herself around 5 am today, Deputy Conservator of Forests DCF), Junagadh division, Senthil Kumar said.

"The leopard attacked Sharmila and dragged her around 200 metres away from the hut and killed her," said Kumar.

Sharmila lived in the village with her parents, who hail from Dahod district, Kumar said.
 

The village is situated around 10 kilometres from Girnar Wildlife Sanctuary.

"We have arranged for an ambulance to take the body of the deceased to her native village as requested by her parents after the post-mortem. We have also set up two cages and stationed forest department personnel to trap the animal," the official said.
