A leopard struck at a village near Valparai in the district, killing a calf and leaving the residents in a state of panic.

Officials said the calf owner and people of Kanjamalai village spotted its carcass some distance away from the hamlet early this morning after an all night search and informed forest department officials.

Officials examined the dead calf, carried out a post-mortem and handed over its body to the owner.

A leopard had been trapped in Valparai in Febuary 11, 2014, after it killed dogs, entered a house and injured an estate worker.
