A leopard has mauled a minor boy and a woman to death in the last two days, a forest official said today.
The leopard first killed a boy Sitaram Mehra (11) at Bhagdei in Bareli tehsil of the district. The animal also mauled an 18-year-old tribal woman, Meena Bai, to death at Dagdaga village in the area, forest ranger, Hariom Manu said.
The leopard attacked Sitaram in the intervening night of Saturday-Sunday, when he had gone to answer nature's call outside his house in the open courtyard, Manu said.
His kin found his mutilated body in the morning on a hillock, the official said.
Similarly, the leopard attacked Meena early today, when she was sleeping in her courtyard, added Manu.
According to the officer, the forest department has provided a financial assistance of Rs 5,000 each to the kin of the two deceased to perform their last rites.

Besides, they will also get an assistance of Rs 4 lakh each as per the Forest Act, he said.
Meanwhile, divisional forest officer D S Paliwal has said the department has taken these incidents seriously and will soon catch the leopard.
