Three persons were today mauled by a leopard in a village in Bihar's Saran district, a forest official said.

A leopard surfaced in Baijalpur village and attacked two villagers Laxmi Narayan and Rahul Kumar while they tried to catch the animal, Saran forest range's Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) D Ganeshan said.

A forest employee Lali Rai also sustained severe injuries after being attacked by the feline cat, the DFO said.

The injured persons have been admitted to a hospital for treatment, Ganeshan said.

Efforts were on to catch the leopard, the DFO, who was camping in the village with the ranger Shiv Kumar, to supervise rescue works, said.

The animal has reportedly wandered into human habitat from the Valmiki Nagar forest through Gandak river, the DFO added.
