An almost dead two-year-old leopard found in a swamp at nearby Kannerimandanai has regained consciousness after treatment by two veterinarians.

Villagers found the animal lying in a swampy area last evening and informed Forest department officials. They brought back the feline in a net to their guest house here, assuming it was dead.

Two veterinarians who were called in found signs of life in the leopard and gave it a booster injection after which it regained consciousness, forest officials said.

The doctors said the leopard had no external injuries and might have got extremely fatigued due to infection and fallen unconscious.

The animal has been kept in a cage and would be monitored for another two days. Depending on its health condition, it would then be released into the jungles, they said.
