Panic gripped Valparai town in the district after the residents noticed a leopard moving in their locality last night.
The leopard was found sleeping in front of a house in Kakkan Colony and after some time it took away a cat, police said.
Hearing the mews of the cat, the residents came out only to see the animal running to a bushy area, they said.
The residents requested the forest department to catch the leopard and release to the jungles, police added.
