A female leopard, which had mauled a 74-year-old woman to death in remote Ribba village in Kinnaur district, about 280 Km from here, was shot dead by a four member team of locals constituted by the state wildlife department today, officials said.
The wildlife department had granted permission to kill the leopard following the elderly lady's killing. Whether the animal was a man-eater or not would be learnt after the post- mortem.
The team tracked the female leopard and shot it around 200 meters from the spot where the elderly lady was attacked, the officials said.

The leopard was 1.82 meters in length and weighed 47 kgs. Its body has been sent for post-mortem, an official said.
"Whether the leopard was a man-eater or not would be known only after the postmortem report is received," said inspector general, wildlife, Rampur region, informed.
The mauling incident last week had caused panic and people are feeling relieved after the leopard was killed, the official added.
