Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today dismissed the state Congress' request for a probe into the source of a controversial letter purportedly written by Ramesh Chennithala against him, saying the Home Minister had himself denied writing such a letter.
"As (Home Minister Ramesh) Chennithala himself had denied writing such a letter, a probe cannot be done based on media reports," Chandy said while replying to questions on KPCC request to the government to order a probe into the matter.
The content of the letter to the Congress high command targeting Chandy for the poor performance of United Democratic Front in the recent civic polls had triggered a row after it was reported in the media.
"There is no circumstance to doubt the denial of Chennithala," Chandy said.
With the letter triggering a row, KPCC had wanted the government to order a probe to find the source of the letter.
Subsequently, AICC also came out with a statement that they have not received any such letter from Chennithala.
The controversial letter had stated that the image of Chandy had taken a beating due to scams and a "serious surgery" was needed to ensure victory in the Assembly polls due in the state next year.
The letter also sought the high command's intervention to chalk out a "proper strategy without further delay".
The letter further stated that the Hindu community in the state had got alienated from the UDF due to "dominance of the minority community in the government".
The letter had also mentioned about the growth of the BJP in the state.
