A letter purportedly issued by a community panchayat asking its people to boycott minority community people triggered tension in a village in Barmer district.

The situation was controlled in time after police intervened and pacified both the sides.

The letter, in which the panchayat asks people not to bring people of minority community into their functions, home or use their vehicles, went viral on social media following which the minority community raised objection.

However, police intervened in the matter and resolved the matter.

The letter went viral after a land-related dispute between the members of the community in Kuseep village.

"The community panchayat has denied issuing any such diktat. Elders of both the communities have been pacified and the situation is under control," police said.

It is being probed who wrote the letter. No FIR has been lodged in this connection so far, the police added.
