A huge "anti-imperialism rally", organised by the Left Front, was taken out in the metropolis today to protest the US's plan to attack Syria for its alleged use of chemical weapons.

The rally, which raised slogans against America and its alleged imperialist move to attack Syria and its earlier "military adventures" in the Middle-East, was attended by over 20,000 people.

Among the participants were Left Front leaders like Biman Bose, Surya Kanta Mishra, Kshiti Goswami, Dipankar Mukherjee, students of different colleges and universities, intellectuals and people from other walks of life.

Banners and posters against the US policies and the alleged use of military might against weaker countries to establish its writ were carried by participants in the rally.

Slogans were also raised against the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre for allegedly toeing US diktat in its policy decisions and for getting closer to America.

The rally started at Rani Rashmoni Avenue in the heart of the city and culminated at Desh Bandhu Park near Shyambazar in the northern part of the metropolis, covering a distance of six kilometres.
