Workers and supporters of the Left Front today walked in a procession condemning the 'brutal police action' on Left activists on October 1, in which several persons including women and elderly ones were injured.

Accusing the state government of trying to curb a peaceful protest by opposition parties, LF Chairman Biman Bose, who led the procession, condemned the police lathicharge on Left activists during their march to Lal Bazar, the city police Headquarter, on October 1.

Police said the procession, which began from Rani Rasmoni near Esplanade area and ended at Sealdah, was peaceful.

Several Left activists, including CPI-M central committee member Dipak Dasgupta and some women were injured in police lathicharge on that day.

Police had said they were forced to resort to lathicharge when attacked by the demonstrators in which some police personnel received injuries.
