The opposition Left Front in Tripura Monday took out protest rallies in different parts of the West Tripura constituency demanding that the Election Commission orders fresh election in the Lok Sabha seat.
The Left Front alleged that large scale rigging and violence took place during the April 11 election in the West Tripura constituency.
"We are organising protest rallies, in different parts of West Tripura constituency areas ... But this is not our protest and struggle alone. It is a struggle of all peace loving, democratic citizens whose democratic rights were snatched by large scale rigging", Left Front convener Bijan Dhar told a gathering here.
Dhar alleged that the BJP-IPFT government in Tripura was "responsible" for overall breakdown of law and order which led to massive rigging on the poll day on April 11.
He said that when a CPI(M) delegation met Election Commission in Delhi before the elections, the EC had assured to take all measures for free and fair elections, but they "failed to fulfil their promises."
"It's been 18 days since the polls were held but no fresh election was ordered," he said.
The Left Front earlier had alleged large-scale rigging and violence during Lok Sabha polls on April 11 and demanded fresh elections in West Tripura constituency.
"The ECI is responsible. They cannot shift their liability. We want to know what decisions were taken by them. Voting is a democratic and personal right. But the people of the constituency could not exercise their adult franchise," Dhar said.
