BJP today welcomed Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung's decision to annul appointment of Swati Maliwal as chief of Delhi Commission for Women, terming it as "fully justified" and one keeping with spirit of Constitution.

Opposition leader in the state assembly and BJP MLA, Vijender Gupta, said Maliwal was appointed without statutory concurrence of Jung and charged that the Constitutional Head of Delhi Government is being "deliberately undermined and ignored" by Kejriwal.

"Jung's decision to annul appointment of Maliwal by Kejriwal as DCW chairperson is fully justified and keeping in letter and the spirit of the Constitution," Gupta said in a statement.

Accusing Kejriwal of not respecting the Governor as well as Centre, Gupta said instead of focusing on developmental issues, Kejriwal has adopted "agitationist and confrontationist" approach, as reflected in his attitude towards and dealing with Centre, Delhi Police, DDA, ACB, etc.

"Kejriwal is also bent on filling-up crucial posts in Government with his own near and dear ones. It has never happened in the history of Delhi Government that so many workers of ruling political party are appointed in such large number on key posts," Gupta said.

"Maliwal's appointment is just tip of the iceberg of a different kind of corruption and favoritism," he said.

Jung had yesterday rejected Maliwal's appointment as DCW chairperson, saying his approval had not been sought on it.
