LG hold high-level meets for International Yoga Day preps

Ahead of the International Yoga Day, Lt Governor Najeeb Jung today held two-high level meetings to discuss preparations for events to be held on the occasion in the city.

The first meeting for the June 21 event was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, along with vice- chancellors of central and state universities and directors of other educational institutions in the city.

In a statement, the LG office said, vice-chancellors and directors of various universities and institutions were urged by the Lt Governor to celebrate it by organising yoga meets in their respective campuses and raising awareness about the benefits of the ancient practice, particularly among the youth.
 

In the second meeting, Joint Secretary (Ministry of Ayush) and Chairman (NDMC) informed the Lt Governor about a special programme being planned on June 21 in the Central Park, Connaught Place and its radial roads here. 10,000 people are expected to congregate at the park on the that day.

"By celebrating 'International Yoga Day', the objective is to mainstream the principle of 'healthy body, healthy mind' which will ensure not just the health of our citizens but also of our society as a whole," Jung said in a statement.

The statement further said on June 19, 27000 people are likely to participate in a special session on yoga by Ramdev which is slated to take place on Rajpath. Besides, 100 RWAs will organise separate sessions in their own areas to celebrate the day.
