Scores of LGBT (Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community members from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra today held a protest here at Jantar Mantar, demanding a hike in their monthly pension.

The protesters demanded an increase in pension for those above 40 years of age. They said they are currently getting Rs 1,000 per month as pension.

"We want a minimum pension of Rs 2000 per month from the Government. The hike should be extended to LGBT members of all states," said Jeeva, President of V Communication Network, a federation for sex workers and transgenders.

"Elections are round the corner...We thought this is the appropriate time to raise our voice and convey our message to the policy-makers," she said.

She said the federation will approach a number of Union Ministers to place their demands.
