The 'Taken 2' actor ended his two-year-old relationship in order to focus more on his work and two sons, the Ace Showbiz reported.
"Liam is heading back to America at the start of next month to work on his new film 'Non-Stop'," a friend said.
"He told Freya that he wants to take a break and concentrate on his family."
The 60-year-old actor and 38-year-old mother of two were spotted spending time together in Rome just two weeks ago.
Neeson started dating the businesswoman just 18 months after his wife, Natasha Richardson, died of severe head injury in a skiing accident at the Mount Tremblant Resort in Quebec.
From his marriage with Natasha, he has two sons named Michael and Daniel.
