Licenses of 8 medical stores around NIS Patiala cancelled:Azad

Stating this in a reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad said inspections were conducted on medical stores around the NIS.

The minister said among those chemists whose licences were cancelled were V V Chemists & Druggists, Ajay Medicos, Harjit Medicos, Garg Medical Store, Modern Medical Hall, Hind Medicos, Cheap Medical Store and Jai Maa Medicos.

On steps taken by the government for proper training to doctors to test and examine banned steroids, injections and food supplements, Azad said the job of testing drugs and food articles is performed by Drugs and Food Testing Laboratories.

 

He said the sports authorities/administrators/doctors have their own procedures for altering and warning the sportspersons about the banned substances.

In reply to another question on illegal sale of sedative drugs, Azad said "there is no proposal under consideration to put a cap on the stock of these medicines at chemist shops as it may result in non-availability of such drugs to legitimate users" but preventive measures have been taken.

He said Jammu and Kashmir, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Kerala, Maharashtra, Nagaland, Tamil Nadu, Tripura and West Bengal have informed that illegal sale of cough syrups and tablets without proper medical prescription has been reported in their territories.
